Hello there,
If a Permanent Residence spents more than six months outside Canada at a time would this be a problem? Someone told me that you will be questioned at the airport when u re.enter Canada as to why you have been away for more than six months. Can someone please let me know if it's true. Am currently outside Canada and will return soon. Would I lose my PR status because I have been away for more than six months???
The 6 months rule has not been in effect since 2003 or so. The rule that replaced it is the 2 years in 5 that you must be in Canada to keep your PR. You can therefore be outside Canada for as long as 3 years in one go, as long as you stay in Canada the next 2 to fulfil your 5 year obligation.
