I initially posted this query in the Family Class section, but it occurs to me that this section is more suitable.
I am told that a renewed PR card must be mailed to a Canadian address. I have a suite in a UPS office in Canada, and UPS could forward the PR card to me (my wife is the PR). Is this OK?
I am also told that the application for renewal must e mailed from inside Canada, but I think I have read somewhere that mailing from outside Canada is NOT grounds for dismissing the application. Can anyone confirm or deny this understanding, please?
Hi,
What do you mean by a suite? Is it a mail box?
Applications for pr renewal can only be mailed from within Canada and the pr card gets mailed only within Canada.
Sometimes, pr card holder has to pick it up from a local office.
1. According to the IRPA regulations the application must originate in Canada - mailing it from inside Canada takes care of this regardless of who mails it on the premise it will have Canadian stamps etc.
2. A suite address should be in theory be ok but seems not to work for two scenario. The first is under OB 536 on July 30, 2013 indicating those with an overseas address which will be the case on your PR application are required to pick up the PR Card in person. The other is where you use a representative for the PR Card application - the applicant must pick up in person. This was to close out the use of lawyers/ immigration consultants forwarding PR Cards to clients overseas but it happens anyway via friends etc.
One follow up, please. Is there any problem listing the "suite" in Canada as the Canadian address, since that is the one we will use when we come to Canada?
