Lost my passport.... What should I do??

I have lost my passport with the TRV visa in it....

I just got my approval of my visa just last week,,, and now I have lost it ... and my classes start in January...

I have the letter from CIC which says my application for study is approved...nothing else..

I am so worried... what should I do?? Do I have to apply all over again?? Please help guys :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

apply for new passport asap..

CIC is gonna need the passport for sure...they may be able to give you a little leeway in timings...if you are sure that you cannot find your passport, then apply for a new one...

only apply if you are sure you won't find the old one...once you apply for new one, you cannot use the old one if you find it before getting the new one

I will apply for a new passport.. once that is sorted... what should I do about my TRV visa... I won't be able to travel to Canada without TRV.... Do I have submit a new application to get my TRV and study permit? or will they re-stamp me the same visa on my new passport?

it's better you contact the consulate with the approval letter with your situation once you have made sure you cannot recover your passport...

Yes, I think i need to report to the police.. which I'll do tomorrow....

Is there any kind of forms through which I can apply for a duplicate of my Temporary Resident Visa TRV and study permit?? I have read it somewhere but I guess that is when you lost it in Canada - not in home country?
Anyone else has any idea about this.. what should I do,,, is there any proper procedure for such situation???

Go to main forum page and search for lost passport in the white box, top right corner. I did this and found following info from PMM who is very helpful here. It was a 2009 post and I am sure you will find many more on the search. Good luck.

1. I assume that you reported your passport lost to the police, who would give you a copy of the report.
2. You just have to apply for a certified copy of your study permit, as you know $30. You are not applying for a new permit, just a copy of your existing one.
3. Once you have a new passport you could apply by mail to one of the Canadian consulates in the US for a new TRV, note you will need the copy of the study permit and passport.
