LMO / Work Permit / New Employer

My LMO was for two years. However, because my passport is expiring next summer, my Work Permit is only until next summer (1 year). However, the Work Permit notes at the bottom say that the LMO was for two years and my work permit is till passport expiry and that I can renew.

I have a question regarding LMO, work permits, and changing jobs! Hopefully someone here can help me!

Here is a timeline of events for me in Canada:

2004 - 2009 -- University in Canada
2009 -- Obtained 3-year open work permit (Post Graduate Work Permit Program)
2010 -- Started work at employer "ABC".
2012 -- Open work permit was about to expire, so employer ABC filed for LMO and received it. Then applied for work permit and received 2 year work permit tied to employer ABC.

2012 -- Received new job offer from employer "DEF" and they filed for A-LMO, which was also approved and received. Now, new work permit application has been filed.


Here's my question. I currently have a valid work permit and valid SIN. I have a positive LMO for my new employer and just waiting for my new work permit to come in the mail. Can I switch jobs and start working with the new employer under "implied status"?

I don't have any idea about that....where did you applied for your A-LMO........Is that Toronto ????

LMO was valid for two years. Work Permit is always valid same as your LMO unless your passport expires before, then it is until the expiry date of your passport and they put a comment on it so can renew it later without the need for another LMO.

I have sent my documents on April 5th 2012 for LMO in Ontario. I got my file number. I applied for WP and Visa from USA with pending LMO 2 weeks ago. But I don't have any updates from LMO. I am worried now. I would appreciate it if you could give me any advice.

I am waiting for LMO opinion send out by current company, open WP is expiring in 3 weeks. Now, should I send new work permit application with letter of explanation that LMO is in process and apply copies and file number OR change my status from work to visitor? Help please

Hoping to get some advice.
I am currently working for my employer who got my work visa and LMO in May this year in Alberta. Before that I was on the working holiday program for 5 years. I am in the middle of doing my permanent residency application and just received my AOR letter the other day. I am looking at moving to Ontario now and trying to stay with the same company if I can. My current work permit only allows me to work for this company in Calgary and for the position stated. Does my employer need to apply for a new LMO and work permit for Ontario for the same position there.

No, my visa is J1 and I am waiting for work permit and visa from LA. If you get any updates please inform me and I will do the same.

Sure! We applied on 19th and our application reached there on the 23rd...would let you know if anything happens nothing negative till now is making us hopeful!!
