Perfect! Thanks for your help. My employer would have to apply for it, correct ?
Also, any idea on when this should be completed or how long the process of getting ones takes ?

You don’t need a LMIA if you have enough points for Express Entry with one year Canadian experience. If you don’t have the points, the employer has to apply and prove no Canadian could be found to do the job. The process can take many months.
it makes sense !! Thanks for clarifying that. I got only 370 points, so I think it might be beneficial for me to try and get one to claim those 50 points.

Yes, you need in the range of 100 more points to have a chance of being selected.
Max out your IELTS score if you haven't done so already.
Yes, your employer is the one who needs to apply for an approved LMIA. This is quite an involved and expensive process for the employer. Plan on processing taking six months.

You need an approved LMIA to apply for a closed work permit. So another reason to speak with your employer about this. I would do this sooner rather than later to determine if your employer is willing to support you.

Good luck. I would also recommend that you read through the LMIA requirements so that you can understand what you will be asking your employer to do. They will need to start by advertising your role for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. See full details below.

If you mean the LMIA then yes. Your employer will have to apply for that. And currently getting approved of a LMIA is not so easy since a lot of people lost their jobs during this pandemic so it will be very difficult to prove that there is no Canadian citizen or PR could fill that position. Also recently we have seen a series of LMIA rejections for that reason.
