Hi to all.I am an international student finished my course on Aug 26 and eligible to get upto 3 yrs work permit through pgwp.
I got a job offer (one yr contract) in which I have to join from sep 16 and company is doing lmia process to get work permit soon.
So my question is am I still eligible to apply for pgwp once when I get closed work permit through lmia.
Additional info.- I convinced the company that I can start work once I apply for pgwp when I am in implied status. But company is willing to offer job only if I have work permit in hand.So I agreed for lmia process.
The reason behind my interest in pgwp is that its a open permit upto 3 yrs but the processing time looks like 4-5 months(paper based application).
LMIA is a bad option. If you go with that and you get fired in 4 months, not only will you have lost your job and can't work for anyone else but you will have lost your window to get your open pgwp which allows you to work for any employer.
Online processing time for pgwp, last time I checked, 41 days.
If you can get to a border control, you can have it in a couple of hours.
LMIA can take 6 months to process. Then add time for processing work permit.
LMIA is not a workpermit. You still have to apply for that after you received your LMIA (if you even get it)..
If you are in Canada and near a land border crossing, take the paperwork you need for your pgwp application, the $255 fee and go! You'd be processed in an hour or two. If that.
LMIA is not a workpermit. You still have to apply for the world.
