I'm an American who's been working in Canada for over two years. Each work permit has been for one year, so I've received three LMIA exemptions under USMCA. My employer and I are now trying to understand if there is a limit to the number of times they can extend my contract and get LMIA exemptions - someone in HR seemed to think that there is a limit of three LMIA exemptions, but I can't seem to find any statement to this effect in researching LMIAs online. So my questions are:
a) Is there a limit to the number of LMIA exemptions/work permit extensions I can receive?
b) If there is a limit, is this per employer, or would I be barred from being hired by a different Canadian employer (who would also, under normal circumstances, be able to get an LMIA exemption)?
