Hello everybody. I did a lot of research on the CIC website but i cannot find anything really helpful for my particular case.
This is my situation:
I m a French/Swiss double citizen that was recently approved (August 2014) entry (Canadian Visa and CAQ) with a study permit for my PhD in Montreal. I ve successfully moved to Montreal and started a new life there. I met my fiancee during my exchange year in Japan and we will get married in Japan this March. We re planning our future together and she would like to join me in Montreal by Fall 2015. She speaks perfcet English but unfortunately no french. I ve started to look at the documents needed and i get a bit lost in all these requirements and forms. I found that you need to apply as a sponser first but this is only available for PR and canadian citizens (which i am not). On the other hand, i saw that your spouse is allowed to come with you when you apply for a student permit (which i did, however we were not married when i did that and she obviously comes later). Furthermore, Japan citizens are elligible for the International Exchange experience Canada and she could also apply for the Working Holiday Permit, thus allowing her to stay here a year.
My questions are the following:
- Which visa is the most adequate to apply to (Open work permit, WHV, others)?
- Is our wish of living together in Canada even possible (for more than a year)?
- Is it possible to extend or to change her visa during the year where she has the WHV?
- Does she need a CAQ?
- Does she already need to have a job offer in Canada when applying for a Open work permit?
I appreciate any help or information regarding our situation. Thank you so much for your time and attention.
