Our nanny is currently here under the live in caregiver contract, about 18 months in. She is a single mother and has a 4 year old son in the Philippines, living with relatives. Our understanding is that she has to achieve PR status to sponsor him. It would be nice to know how to optimize her ability to bring this child to Canada as quickly as possible, for his and her benefit.
We don't mind if he lives with us while she continues to work as a live in caregiver; she can integrate his care with that of our kids until she has another stable way of supporting him here-ours are all in school and our housekeeping needs are minimal so she will have plenty of time for him.
Is waiting for PR status and sponsorship her only option for this child? Can she have him here as a visitor pretty much full time, or bring him some other way? If she were to do that, what sort of limits are there-like how often and for how long he would have to return to the Philippines, chances of getting serial visitor visas, length of time to get them, how it will affect their overall application and so forth? It would be cruel to bring him here for half of each year or something-he would never have a real home-but if he could stay 11/12 months yearly with visa renewal=visit home that would be pretty ideal. If he is here any other way than sponsored by a PR, what does that mean for school and health insurance? She can't afford the type of school fees charged to visitors, and may not be able to afford health insurance either, and while we can manage the added costs of the child living with us we are not in a financial position to pay for school and health insurance-it is all we can do to afford a nanny and our own kids.
