Aspiring Liberal leadership candidate René Ephestion will be writing his citizenship test April 4 and expects to receive his Canadian citizenship in a ceremony April 17.
I bet he didn't need to keep calling IRCC to get the same 'everything is fine you just need to wait' answer..

That’s fine, but I don’t understand how he became a candidate even before becoming a citizen, not to mention the IRCC background checks that takes forever to complete...

This guy became a prospective candidate probably because he demonstrated interest in running for public office, got involved in helping homeless shelters, new immigrants, public libraries and not hanging around visa forums.

That's interesting.
Is getting both the citizenship test and oath dates in advance a usual thing? In NB at least?
To my knowledge, it happens mostly to people who get their citizenship on their test date, or the next day for those who live far from an IRCC office.
Or is this mainly linked to the high profile of the guy?
