I'm an American planning to apply for sponsorship by my common-law partner in Quebec (inland - I'm here on a study permit). I see on the document checklist it says to provide at least 2 of:
Important documents showing that you are recognized as each other's spouse (such as employment or insurance benefits)
Documentary evidence of financial support between you and your sponsor, and/or shared expenses.
Other proof that your relationship is recognized by your friends and/or family (e.g. Letters from friends/family, social media...etc)
We have documents for the first two options: showing that he is on my dental insurance and that we have shared banking accounts/expenses. How necessary do you think it is to have letters from friends/family in this case, considering we have documents for the other 2 options? If you think I do need letters, how many would be sufficient?

We are outland (but my husband lives here with me) and married - but we still made sure to provide things from all three of the above.
His parents, my parents, his best man, and my maid of honor all wrote letters on our behalf, supporting our relationship and how they came to know us individually and as a couple.
We didnt include letters from our friends or family -- he lives here in canada with me.. i provided our cell phone bill with both our names on it, our home insurance, showed that he is a recipient of my work benefits and that he is a beneficiary for life insurance and RRSPs and a lease agreement with both our names on it.
who writes letters nowadays? heck, nobody even uses a pen anymore. so we just screenshot facebook comments and text messages from friends and family.
to answer your question, if you have 2 out of 3, that's good enough. if you have more, it's also good. how many letters do you have? you can provide all of them if you want to. just note that the more information you give them, the more time they will need to process your application. yes, they do read through all of it. these guys are experts on what they do.
