Thanks chilkootcee for your efforts in initiating this! I have sent an email to my MP. Hopefully more Canadians going through this process can voice their concerns through the aforementioned channels.
I do not mind great scrutiny in assessing applications, especially with those from visa exempt countries like my wife's, but if the processing times go beyond 6 months it stands out to be a concern. Anything above a year is unreasonable, and quite frankly, unbearable. Although my wife and I are fairly new to this waiting game, I really cannot imagine waiting for more than a year to be reunited with my spouse.
It won't be anywhere near 24 months if your application is complete with no missing documents/signatures, no issues with background checks, and minimal red flags in your relationship profile.
I think a more effective method instead of crafting a petition would be to simply vote for a new government. The current government has stated they plan to keep the status quo with regards to family reunification/refugees, so if that's not to your liking you can just go out and vote another party. I believe the Liberals stated they plan to emphasize more family reunification over foreign workers. Also, this is the first time in a long time that all 3 major parties have a viable shot at winning the election, so your vote will mean even more than ever.

Please see message at the top of thread for links and sample letter...of course you are welcome to write your own version. Please keep in mind that the application processing times were updated again since the letter was written, so some of it does not apply (like Amman VO not having posted time)
