Hi,

I am a Portuguese citizen but I have been living and working in Canada under a 2 year work permit that expired at the beginning of March. Before this I applied for a work permit extension so I currently have implied status. I have also applied for the IEC working holiday program.

For the IEC working holiday program, they have asked for Biometrics, but I have found out that I cannot do this in Canada? I see that I can go to the ASC in Detroit to do this, but I am worried about the process of leaving Canada and getting back in...

Since I have Portuguese citizenship, it looks like it is a visa exempt country for both the U.S. and Canada? Does this mean that I will have no problems entering the U.S. for a day and coming back? Do I need to apply online for an ESTA to make the process of entering the U.S. easier?

When coming back to Canada, from what I read, because I am implied status they will tell me I cannot work until the decision comes back from immigration about my work permit extension. But I can still come back into Canada? I have a valid eTA until 2020. I am not worried about waiting for the decision from immigration to resume working, but I am very worried about not being allowed back into Canada

I am very worried about crossing the border to the U.S. and being denied entry, or being denied entry back to Canada. I am very confused why there is no VAC or anywhere to give fingerprints in Canada, but I will go to the U.S. if I can to do this, just worried about getting back into Canada.

Please help!

1. You will need an ESTA. Read this -> https://pt.usembassy.gov/visas/visa-waiver-program/
2. You should be able to travel in to the US and back with no issues - of course, the CBP officer may find something in your history that renders you inadmissible (and the same for the CBSA when you're coming back in).

Assuming you have a clean record and no reason to be denied, you should be fine.
