Leaving beyond the 6 month but before visitor record is issued

I'm asking for a friend's mother.
She's here on a tourist visa that expires in 2021. She came here at end of Feb, 2020 and the 6 months will be due end of August,2020.

She wants to stay more so she applied for visitor record, which won't be ready till Nov 2020.

But now she has to leave in Sept 2020 : that is after the 6 months pass, and before the visitor extension is issued.

Any advise on what needs to be done to avoid future problems? (for example should she cancel the visitor extension...)

If she leaves Canada, the application is considered abandoned. To return to Canada, she would need a valid eTA or TRV.

She should advise CIC that she has left the country via webform once she leaves. Stops unecessary resources being used to approve/refuse the application.

As long as CIC doesnt give her a decision, her status is considered Implied. So regardless the 6 month bar, her stay will be legal and valid until a decision has been made by CIC which you are guessing will be in November. My mother is facing similar situation and we decided that she would stay until a decision has been made.

If you do advise CIC as early as possible a medical may not be requested.
