Hello,
I am a PR in British Columbia and I am applying for citizenship this year.
I got married last year in BC and I would like to assume my married last name on my canadian passport. My current passport and PR card have my maiden name.
I am a little confused by the instructions in the guide for applying as they say you just need to include a copy of your marriage certificate of you want to assume your married name.
Is it as simple as that?
I am writing to ask if I need to apply for a legal name change before I submit my citizen application or can I apply under my maiden name and include my marriage certificate as proof to last name change?
I called the CIC centre and they were not much help - they just sent me the instruction guide.

Hi, I’m in the same situation, I would like a suggestion on what to do, should I apply for renewal pr card and wait 3+ months or apply now and only include marriage certificate in the citizenship application.
I believe you need to change your name legally and provide a "certificate of name change" if you want it on citizenship application. Since getting married is not a official document for name change, You have to apply for name change, unless you don't your name will be same as it's on your legal documents.
