Hi,

After 1 year and 8 months as a temporary foreign worker I have been laid off. My current work permit expires in August 2015. I am actively seeking new employment. I have applied for an open work permit whilst my PR application is being processed (well soon as we are nearly ready to send this off). We have sold our house in England. We have a house in Ontario Mississauga.

What is my status now, has it changed to Implied or am I still a TFW? What are my chances of getting an open work permit whilst my PR application is being processed. We can afford to stay here with me jobless until we get the result, but we don't want to spend all that money and I will go crazy not working.

Thank you for any help offered.

Your status is TFW since your closed work permit is still valid.

How did you apply for PR?

Sorry - just saw that you haven't submitted yoru PR application yet.

In that case I don't see how you would qualify for an open work permit and you should expect your open work permit to be refused (unless there are further details abour your situation or circumstances you haven't told us).

Well I went through the wizard online to see if I quality and select NO to the question if I have applied for my PR.

If you confirmed that you qualify - then you should be fine. This means that you fit one of the profiles listed on this page:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=177&t=17

Note that a TRP is not the same things as a TRV. So hopefully you didn't say "yes" to the TRP question when you used the online wizard.

I under there is a difference and selected No. Thank you for your help. Everything else is correct, however as I stated I have been laid off and I can find nothing on the CIC site about this.
