I've been on a long distance relationship with someone for a little over 2 years and we really want to move together, I'm in Uruguay and she's in Ontario. We're thinking about visiting for 6 months and then extending the visit so we can get common law status. I'm currently finishing a bartender course and I'm 22, is this viable at all? how much money would we need to save up?

Sure, that's a viable option. Do you already have an approved TRV? If not, that will be the first challenge.

I would recommend you dedicate time reading through the posts in the Visitors section of the forum so that you can read advice on how to put together a strong application.

You will want to demonstrate strong ties to your home country (e.g. job, property, assets). You will also want to show that you have enough funds to pay for your trip (if you are planning on coming here for several months, then you should really be showing a bank balance of $10K+). If you have previous travel to countries requiring visas (e.g. the US), that will work in your favour.

10k is what I plan on saving up yeah, and i already have a US visitor visa, it's expired tho but hopefully the fact that I at one point got it should work in my favor, although I could renew it

Unless you have visited the US and returned home a visa on it’s own is not that helpful. Canada wants to see that you have a pattern of going to a country in Europe, US, Australia, etc. and didn’t overstay.

Correct, you are not common law. Since you have never met, IRCC will not view what you have as a relationship.

You need to apply for the TRV independently as a visitor to Canada.

If the application is asking you to provide a declaration of common-law, then you have selected an incorrect option somewhere.

It's optional. You're not common law.

If you did go visit and returned home in the past 5 years that should help your application. It shows that you followed immigration rules.
