Hey All!

So my CoPR FINALLY came in the mail today! :D

I'm a little bit confused though on the last step of the process.

It says it's Valid for a year, and we've been trying to figure out how to get it finalized.

We found that the closest office to us appears to be Scarborough, but have no way of making an appointment.

We called the number on the information sheets that came in the mail, but the guy just said you have to send a letter, and sent us to an address link that i already found.

We're not going on vacation this year anymore, so doing it through border crossing is a sort of last option.

Also, after we've finalized the CoPR and get Permanent residency status, i realize i have to apply for a PR Card too.

My only thing is, the current time length of PR for me would be 1 year (which is thought was supposed to be 5 years.) Does this mean i'll have to pay $50 for the card now, and then in a years time, pay another $50 to renew the card?

From what i've read, even if the card expires, i'm still a Permanent resident, it just means i don't have the ID proof?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Chris

The Scarborough office doesn't handle landings. Only Etobicoke. It may be a couple of months before they have an open slot (or it may just be a few weeks).

Other options are to drive to the nearest US/Canada land border, exit Canada and then re-enter to land. Or to fly into Canada on an international flight and land at the airport.

The 1 year validity is for the PR visa (the date by which you must land) - not your PR status. These are two completely separate things.

Thanks for the clarification Scylla!

That's the one thing that confused us the most.

So Etobicoke is the only office in Ontario that handles landings? If it's going to take that long, we may just drive over the border.

Is it any border crossing that can complete the landing? (Closest to us is Thousand Islands Bridge.)

Also, what happens afterward? Is the PR Card necessary or is it only really needed for travelling? Is there any need to renew PR Status?

Thanks again!

You can land at any border doesn't matter which one you have to leave the country and re enter. It could be by land/ flight/ ship...
From what i have heard on this forum Etobicoke office is the worst and waiting times are 2 months but you can call CIC and see what are the current time for appointment.
Whichever is your area you get that office for landing! So when you call CIC they will let you know which office and then the office contacts you directly.
If you can wait just land at a CIC office (Etobicoke is not the only office in Ontario to land) and you have one year so you can do that.
Otherwise just go to any border, it's your choice.
for PR card as far as i know if its your first time they will tell you once you land it will be sent to your given mailing address and current timeline to get PR card is 2-3 months for first timers.
