If they are offering to pay for flights and accommodation, it is fake.
If they are asking you to pay money, it is fake.

It's pretty easy to do. Pay someone a few bucks to copy a genuine website and register a domain name.

Not really. These people almost certainly aren't in Canada. You did the right thing by checking before giving them money. Just don't interact with them anymore.
