Hi folks.

I'm an IT professional living in Russia. My area of expertise is server and networking hardware and software. Usually I'm employed in datacenters or system integrators as a lead engineer. My job is to design from scratch and implement solutions in different areas of IT - messaging, infrastructure, etc.

I want to work abroad for some time (not sure if I want to stay there for the rest of my life). What country could be more appripriate for this - Canada or United States? I'd prefer to live in Canada because if its moderate climate and political stability, but I've heard that there are no so many jobs for a skilled specialist like me. What's your opinion on this matter?

I am telling you my friend, Canada is bad choice for IT Professionals. go to USA. I am here in Canada trying to find a QA job and no luck yet. Hope I find it soon but USA is better option, no doubt.

USA is better, but the problem is how you get there? the H1B visa quota was all taken just within days

Try finding jobs in Canada job website dude. Based on the # of jobs you find relevant to your skills, you can make a decision. There are N number of IT jobs, I am a QA but may be QA jobs are less compared to what you do. It depends really on the skillset rather than looking @ software jobs overall.

Thank you for sharing your opinions, guys. I'll keep them in mind.

I can find a number of jobs relevant to my skills on Canadian job sites. However, this is not a matter of skills. The question is if Canadian employers are willing to go through all that paperwork to hire a foreign specialist...
