Hello all
In my passport, my name is mentioend as:
Given name: Ghansham Ram Kumar
Surname: Sharma
Throughout my life, I have used my given name as my First name and my surname as my last name with no middle name.
While applying for Canada SIN, I wanted to use the same format. But, the officer told me that in Canada , we use the following format:
First Name: Ghansham
Middle Name(s): Ram Kumar
Last Name(s): Sharma
I requested that I would like to use my entire given name (3 words) as my First name. But, he said First name should just be a single name. So, that was it and he gave me the confirmation of my SIN.
1. Can I make name changes to my SIN record by going to Service Canada and merging my middle name in my first name or does Service Canada just use the first given name for First Name and rest of given name for middle name ?
2. What all complication can I face in future if there is a mismatch between my name on SIN(has middle name) and name on other Canadian official docs(no middle name) ?
Me and my wife are in same boat but we have faced no issue so far since 3 years.
Normally what is acceptable internationally;
If there is no middle name, last name, first name
MNU Middle name unknown
LNU Last -------
FNU First --------
The given name in passport is our identity, name nothing less / more

they follow just given name and surname format.
so that is fine and ok dont worry.
So, Given name = First name + Middle name , right ?

I believe so. At least that is how I have used it in Canada for myself as well as spouse and kids. We all have 3 word names where first and middle was always put as GIVEN name on passports. So we have kept the same convention mostly.
Except that health care in Canada for spouse usually insists on taking her mother's maidan name.

yes
So, while filing any forms in future and if they ask for first name and middle name , I should mention the same thing which is on my SIN record so as to maintain uniformity ?

Yep
Thanks. But if I want to make changes to SIN record, I can still make it by going to the Canada service center ? Can I go to any center anywhere in Canada or does it have to be the one in same province in which I applied ?

Technically you can get it done at any service Canada center which offers walk in (not every SC center does that).
But I doubt they would accept changes to SIN that often on the fly unless their is a very good reason.
Generally the name on SIN remains your primary source of records in Canada
