Hi guys,
I have a question about my common law application. My application was sent in mid September 2020 and hasn’t been processed yet. Yesterday my partner(the sponsor) just learned that his employer declared bankruptcy...I’m just worried if this will affect my application since one of the documents we sent in has the proof of employment (the letter from his employer stating he’s been working there and how much he earns)...has anyone encountered the similar situation? I don’t know what to do since my application hasn’t even been processed yet but the thing is my visitor visa expired few months ago and I didn’t extend my visitor visa (as I thought the implied status while I wait for my common law application to be approved). I’m just worried if I would be asked to leave the country once they request my partner (sponsor) to provide a new proof of employment document..

Yes I submitted my OWP application along with my common law application. Thank you for your reply! I was really worried cause I read online that some people suggest applying visitor visa while waiting for the application to process is a safer way. Thank you !!

Technically this is the safest way. If for any reason your application is returned due to being incomplete, then you'll fall out of status. So until you receive AOR and know your application has been accepted as complete, applying to extend your status as a visitor is good "insurance".
