Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if there is a deadline to keep PR status after initial entry to Canada.
We entered Canada for PR Confirmation, applied PR Card (still not delivered to the Canadian address we provided at the port of entry) and went back to US where we currently live. We'd like to move within 2-3 months and without the PR Card, do we have to apply for Travel Document? More importantly, we are wondering if there is a deadline? Should we be in Canada within 6 or 12 months after initial entry? I tried to find the answer for my question before posting it and taking your time, but I couldn't. We will really appreciate if you have any information in this matter.
Thank you in advance.
Dennis
You have to stay in Canada for a total of 730 days in the first 5 years after you landed.
Yes you can apply for a Travel Doc.
Thank you so much for your quick reply! So there is no other requirement other than 730 day rule? No 6 months, or 12 months? Thank you again Alabaman.

Nope. I think the 6 month rule was long time ago (prior to 2002 maybe). The rules have been changed since then.
In 2002, it was 6 out of each 12 month period you had to be in Canada. Now it is 730 days in each rolling 5 yr. period.
Thank you ALABAMAN and LEON for your help. I really appreciate both of you taking your time to help us! Kind regards to both of you.
Dennis
