I am a British citizen being sponsored by my Canadian girlfriend. I just received a request for my passport in my email. It says British citizens need an eTA to travel to Canada. Does this mean I am visa exempt or do I need to send my passport off to be processed? Also, my application is being processed in Ottawa but it's asking me to send photos to London, is this correct?
it may be a good idea to post the email you received without your personal information so we can confirm the information you're reading.
Generally, visa exempt applicants only need to send a copy of the passport. this would be referenced in the request letter.
it seems that the new ETA requirement may mean visa exempt applicants will now need to send in their physical passport for processing. A person from Singapore reported the same thing earlier this week, so this looks to be a part of the new process.

British citizens are visa exempt. An eTA is not a visa, and British citizens do need an eTA to fly to Canada. I would advise to follow the instructions given precisely (and to post it here, word for word with ID blanked out if you want others to comment on them)
