I am planning to do this following course. I cant figure out the major for this course.

http://www.centennialcollege.ca/Programs/ProgramOverview.aspx?Program=3428

Is that Post graduate Diploma or Diploma only because course eligibility is below:

1. College diploma or university degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering or a related discipline

2. We will consider applicants with a combination of partial diploma or degree and relevant work experiences

What do you guys think?

Hi,

This course clearly is a diploma programme.

**All opinions expressed are purely personal, and pieces of information mentioned are to the best of my knowledge... You should consult other sources too

It is a two year program but fast tracked into one year for people who have previous knowledge or education...no way is it a PG diploma.

As I have already done my BE CSE, is that course major is higher than BE?

nopes...it's not higher than BE....it's lower than a BE...this is how it works in canada after 12th:

Diploma - 2 years
Advanced Diploma - 3 years
Degree - 4 years
PG diploma - after degree
Masters - after PG or degree

If it's lower than BE than why is that eligibility mentioned as college diploma or university degree required?

I have mailed this question to college representative and i got the below response.

"It is an Advanced Diploma. At this stage in your life, what you require is a Canadian credential from an accredited educational institution simply to lend credence to what you've done in India. Remember that Canadian employers want to see a Canadian credential and Canadian work experience."

Seems like centennial college does not offer any PG diploma courses and it only offers diploma, Advance diploma and Graduate certificate courses. What do you guys think?

basically what they are telling you that they don't consider your BE to be a valid degree in Canada....if you really want your BE to be considered and you did it properly with good marks and from a reputed university you should apply for equivalency at WES services...Once they do the equivalency, it would tell you what your BE stands in Canada..and the college is true that the Canadian employers want to see a Canadian credential and work exp but I don't think so this is the right way...

At the same time it's worth mentioning that people who did do BE and enrolled in the Diploma or Adv Diploma courses have dropped out of their programs..I don't know about Centennial but surely in Seneca..

So is it worth if I do the above course? As you said students who dropped their courses because diploma courses are not worth or some other reasons?

they dropped out because they did not study in their BE's properly and you need to perform practicals in labs which was not working for them because they took the fast track courses in Canada (the courses you skip in fast track prepare you for the higher sem but if you take fast track it is understood that you already have that knowledge based on your BE) and had no idea what was happening...that was the reason why they dropped out...

I have work experience relevant to the course so I think I can keep up with the course. Somewhat I know how Canadian studies works and I heard I need to work hard to get the good grade. So I believe this course is suitable for me. So it's good go with the course. Correct?

it's you who would have to make the final call....we can only advise you....weigh the pros and cons and see what would be helpful to you in future...if you are thinking by doing this diploma you can get canadian education, you can get with PG as well.....

in the end it would be you who should be deciding this.
