I have a valid COPR approved before 18 March 2020,and I am planning to travel in September. I am aware of the quarantine plan and I have one too but it came to our notice that usually people show their Airbnb or hotel booking to the border officer. In my case I have family friends who are out of Canada for a month and are offering me their place to stay. The question is how to satisfy the border officer regarding that ?
I’d call the CBSA and inquire with them. There’s no regulation that says you must be paying for the place you quarantine at.
Others can chime in, but they may have more of an issue not having an address to mail the PR card to. However, I haven’t received my CoPR yet, so I haven’t done much research in this area.
Others can comment as well but there is no requirement to show you have booked a commercial property, Airbnb or hotel. You just need a Canadian address and a contact number plus confirm to CBSA you have made arrangements for food delivery , transport to the address and that you will not be sharing any facilities or in physical contact with anyone at the address who is not in isolation.
The whole quarantine plan is based largely on trust that people will be responsible and there is always a chance that the authorities may check up either by phone or in person.
The address for the PR card is a normal requirement even before COVID so if not using friends address and have no other CBSA will just tell you to apply later when you have an address.
Also download the ArriveCAN APP onto your phone that you complete before arrival
