I'll be attending UBC Vancouver in the Fall as a US Citizen and am wondering if it is possible to apply for a study permit at a port of entry/airport (this case being the Vancouver International Airport).
I see it mentioned on UBC's website, yet I see nothing on the actual CIC site about it. Just curious as it seems much easier and faster than applying online, with the timetables on the CIC stating it can take at least four weeks to process.
Well, I just saw this at the very bottom of step-9 on the CIC's "how to apply for a study permit".
Any experiences or anything on this topic would still be appreciated, though.
Short answer ... yes. I'm a student here in Vancouver as well, also from the U.S. The only difference is that I drove across iat Blaine/White Rock. Once I had the acceptance letter in hand I grabbed a copy of my most recent bank statement (proof of funds) and drove down to the border. Went inside, paid the permit fee, and walked out with my study permit stapled into my passport 15 minutes later. My wife was with me and as we were standing at the service counter, they asked us whether we also wanted an open work permit for her. Hadn't planned on having her work but we thought, "Why not?, so =we paid the $100 and that was that!
