Is it possible to marry and sponsor someone after they've been deported?

My boyfriend was deported on July 14, 2013. He came to Canada as an International Student. Immediately after he finished his studies, he dealt with some personal issues with his grandparents. To keep my story short, his grandfather said some awful things to him before he died in December, and my boyfriend suffered a mental meltdown that led to a diagnose of schizophrenia/bipolar. As a result he did some things that were never his actual intentions (tried to break into a car at school and then someones house). He got arrested for trespassing, but eventually they put him in a mental ward section in prison. He was released after a month, and came back to his normal self after he started taking the prescribed meds. He did community service, and worked for a bit and everything seemed fine until he got the letter from Canadian Service Border stating that he was to be deported for violating the rules and regulations of his Visa during his stay.

I didn't marry him right there and then because we're still quiet young and chances are getting married after the deportation note would bring suspicion of its validity. I do want to marry him, and I'm hoping to five years down the road. So basically what I would like to know is, is it possible to bring him back to Canada? What kind of steps would I have to take?

Do you want him to return as a student or as a sponsored permanent resident?

Also, is he from a visa exempt country?

To answer your question - yes, you can sponsor him once you are married. Since he was deported, he will need an ARC to return. This will involve paying an extra $400 in processing fees and also repaying the cost of the flight to deport him.

What is your status in Canada? If you are a PR then marrying him entitles him to file for PR. But if you are a student then after marriage he can come to Canada on Open Work Permit.

Both of these processes will undergo criminal check though, but as you mentioned it was a medical condition so as per my opinion he will be allowed to come to Canada.

Maybe you need to hire a tough Lawyer.

Re-read the post. The OP said her boyfriend was deported. He requires an ARC for any return to Canada.
