I have applied for PR on Apr 13th & got an approval last week i.e. Jul 16th, 2010. When I applied, there was no requirement for IELTS since I have a US Master's degree and a letter stating that my formal education is all English + a US Masters degree could prove my English skills.

Following the June 26th language testing rule change, I am not sure if I need to appear for IELTS or not. The CIC website doesn't indicate what IELTS testing requirements are needed for applicants who applied before June 26th. Your guidance will be appreciated very much!! Thank you!

Abhi

Read http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2010/ob166.asp Note, if CIC doesn't feel that your written proof is adequate, you don't get a second chance for IELTs. So they will make a decision on what you submitted, don't be surprised if you are give a low score.

Hi Abhipatel,

If you browse the forum, you will learn that the written explanation will fetch you a maximum of 8 points.

However, the media release http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/releases/2010/2010-03-10.asp and the one you have come across - June 26, states the importance of doing IELTS exam.

Somewhere in the forum I came across a person pursuing his PHD and teaching in the US was asked to do his IELTS exam.

You might want to give it shot and submit it with your application set.

Do browse the OP Manual - PMM has shared the link with you, it clearly indicates how they evaluate written submissions

Hi

Ahhh this is the question I was looking for. I take it if I applied prior to JUNE 26 2010 I can still send a written submission instead of taking the test? It does seem crazy to have to wait a month or so to sit the test when I was born in UK , have never spoken any language other than English and my education up to Masters level has been entirely in English. I don't want to get this wrong though!!

Thanks
Katie

Ok, here's the problem i have, I fall in the pre 26 June catagory.

I need to submit my docs by October 20th. As so many people are having to do the IELTS now and with the influx of people who were ready to submit the application there are no appointments left that will give me enough time to get the results and submit within the 120 days. I was born and bred in England with English parentage so it is the only language i am claiming. My total points on the self test is 82.

What apart from a letter should i submit for my language proof - would a letter from my employer carry any weight?

Thanks
