Is friends and family not aware a big deal?

I was just wondering in general if friends and family are not aware of the relationship is it a big deal. We are planning on waiting several months to send a second application after I (sponsor) withdraw the first one for personal reasons and separated . Couple years later decided to try the relationship again but this time not involving parents and friends etc because their opinions etc didn't not help or were positive in any way previously . Is this a big deal for the genuine purpose of the relationship ? I mean if we both agreed that we don't want to involve anyone can this be a problem ?
