Hi I just have a question. My brother-in-law had an interview, he was given the passport and told that the officer would contact him by mail. Considering that the interview went very well, and the only issue they had was the legitimacy of the phone bill, which they kept to investigate further, is this a good sign?
Would the immigration officer need his passport to stamp a visa, or can he get the papers in the mail?

Thank You for your time.

I'm not the immigration officer, so I can't say whether it's good or bad.. but...

- They need the passport to put the visa inside
- They would also give him papers to travel with COPR

They could request the passport again by mail after they conclude their interview I guess.

Well I think you need your passport to redo medicals... was he told to go and get them, he will need current ones if he is approved..

Well 100% he will need new medicals if they expire in 2 weeks and if he is approved. They won't issue the visa until they have them. The visa itself is expires the same date you did your medicals.

Can't he get his visa before the two weeks are up? When will the status be updated on the cic website?

I have no idea... the only problem I see is that, he has his passport, not the office, who would need it in order it issue the visa.

That's what we thought, but the lawyer said that an IMM is sometimes sent in the mail. I understood that to mean that, as an approved immigrant, he could enter Canada without a visa? What is the COPR?

It is sent in the mail when they keep your passport. They mail you the passport with the visa inside it. The COPR (Confirmation of permenant residence) is the landing document they give you to take to immigration when you get to Canada to make it official that you are a PR. I have never heard of anyone landing without their visa (I mean even US Citizens who are visa exempt, get visa put in their passports when they are about to become PRs and need to land), however, I am not an immigration lawyer yet. So I don't know everything. Maybe someone else will see this an offer their perspective.
