Hello All,

I am doing a inland spousal sponsorship. As of this week my spouse has received their CSQ. We are now trying to figure out how they can now apply for the open work permit(OWP). Going through the IRCC website it says we must apply in Québec but we are finding nowhere to do so.

Does anyone have an answer on how to go about this?

Timeline for anyone curious
7 Oct 2022 Online application to IRCC
9 Nov 2022 Invitation to apply for CSQ
20 Feb CSQ issued

As soon as you received AOR from IRCC you should have been able to apply for OWP through GCKey login, no need to wait until CSQ approval.

OWP usually takes 3/4 months, so if you apply at this point, it might be a waste of money?

Logging in using the GCKey there is no option to apply for OWP while in Quebec, it returns a message saying must apply in Quebec.

The problem could be at the question: 'how long do you plan to stay', you need to say 'temporary - more than 6 months' rather than 'permanently'. That should allow you to submit the OWP application without the need for CSQ.

Currently a visitor
maybe check here.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/extend-permit/bridging-open-work-permit.html

To be eligible for a BOWP, you must
  • live in Canada and intend to live in Quebec
    • You can leave Canada while we process your application.
    • However, if you leave Canada after your work permit expires, you can’t work until your new application is approved.
  • hold a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ)
  • be the principal applicant on your permanent residence application
  • have passed a completeness check for permanent residence
  • either

I'm not even sure where to get to this question, when clicking the link to apply for OWP the only options are to apply for a work permit as a skileld worker currently outside of Canada or under the working holiday exchange program thats in place.

Thanks, this unfortunately doesn't apply either. It seems there is no way to get to the OWP for spousal sponsorship online despite links stating they lead to the application

Can you share how long did it take after submitting application to MIFI and getting Accusee de Reception to get CSQ?

The way it worked for us was to go on the IRCC website and use the Welcome to Canada wizard, and through answering these questions, we obtained the code for the right forms. Then in GCkey, we started a new application and used this code to get the right forms.
