Read the healthcare eligibility webpage of your province.
For some provinces (like Ontario) just having OWP is not enough, you also require full time employment letter to be eligible for healthcare.
Yes you need to show that she has worked with an employer for 3 months. After 3 months, your wife can apply for OHIP with a letter from same employer saying that she will be working with them for the next 6 months too.
