Hi, I am a US citizen and have been dating a Canadian citizen for almost 2 years. Over this time, I have visited him seven times (max 10 days per visit). We have now decided that I would be moving to Canada. I am hoping to cross the border and, once there, marry my boyfriend so I can apply for PR.
1. Would it be ok if I told a border patrol officer that I am planning on visiting my boyfriend for a few moths, and omit the marriage part?
2. Would getting married withing the first 1-2 months of my arrival be ok or should we wait longer? Would be nice to get the paperwork going as soon as we can so I can get a work permit.
3. Also, I have a criminal record from 2014 with charges dismissed in 2015 (class B misdemeanor, no arrest, max punishment 6 months imprisonment with no time actually served). Could this in any way affect my PR application?
Thanks so much for your time!
1. Yes, that's fine, you're coming as a visitor.
2. Around 2 months minimum should be ok. It's not that you cannot marry inmediately, but it's better to givd it a bit ofvtimecafter you arrive so everything hoes smooth.
3. Double check this on the website on the guidelines for PR application. But in any case, if you want to apply and the recird id tgere, although charges were dismissed, then you'll have to take the chances.

Thanks for your response! So I received a US Police record and it is clear, no records of previous charges. Can I leave the dismissed criminal record out of my application then?
