Hi,
I recently applied for PR under Inland Spousal sponsorship category. The application was returned as incomplete due to the lack of Police clearance certificate.
Police Certificate: A Federal police certificate is required from the country in which you have
spent the majority of your adult life (since the age of 18). Please visit
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/index.asp or contact the Call
Centre, toll free, at 1-888-242-2100 for further information on how to obtain a Federal police
certificate. Note that regional, county and national police certificate are not acceptable. Kindly
ensure you provide a Federal Police Certificate as indicated on the IRCC Website. If the
police certificate is not in English or French, a notarized (certified) translation in either English
or French with a copy of the original version must be provided.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/index.asp for Japan states that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send you a letter requesting a police certificate after you send your application for permanent residence. You must bring that letter when you apply for a police certificate.
Thus I am confused as to why the application was sent back as I need a letter from IRCC to be able to apply for a Japanese police clearance certificate.
I have since resubmitted the application by including a letter of explanation as to why the certificate is missing.
I am currently on a work permit and would have liked to maintain the status. AOR received from the PR application would have allowed me to extend my work permit and continue to work while I receive a verdict from IRCC on my application.
My work permit expires on August 15th so I doubt I will get the AOR now before it expires. Since it's a requirement for my Inland spousal application that I stay in Canada, I plan to extend my stay by changing to visitor status: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/extend-stay.html
Here are questions that I have:
Can I apply for an extension to stay by changing my status to a visitor? if yes, can I then also apply for a work permit extension at the same time without AOR and include a letter explaining the circumstances?
Thanks!
