My wife and child are here with me on TRVs. PR sponsorship app has been recently submitted
Kid's passport expires in May, 2019 together with his TRV.
We got him a new passport and are looking to apply for a new TRV.
Question: Is this possible? has anyone had a similar situation?
I might be doing a paper based TRV for him with an explanation letter and send it to Ottawa.
Yes you can apply for visa extensions online for both your wife and child. If you indicate that you are waiting for inland sponsorship it should be approved.

Theoretically yes, but I called the immigration office, they said that there is no extension for a visitor. Only for study or work visa. Practically it is the same category, however there is no guarantee the kid will receive his trv here. They might ask me to apply from my home country, so my family will have to leave again...
That is why I am looking for people who has done it.

I am probably wrong or don't understand smth. Could you please explain how it works? Including how I should apply, which application category to chose?
I always thought the visitor status s extended by leaving the country and coming back. That is what we are looking to do, travel to US etc

Would discourage leaving Canada and seeking reentry. Your chances of being denied will increase. As previously noted you can apply to extend visitor status online. You will likely have no problem. Would apply a month before their status expires so at the 5 months mark. It will likely take longer than a month to get confirmation of the extension but they will be under implied status.

UPD: Extension is only for students and work permit holders, so there is no official way to do it. However I believe I am not the only one who had this issue.
