I have submitted my spousal application a couple of weeks ago and waiting for more info from the government.
BUT, a friend of mine, who submitted his application in March, just told me IRCC requested to see his Canadian police check. They need it quite quickly otherwise they cancel the application.
I never heard that they were requesting a Canadian police check, inland or outland.
Hello,
I have submitted my spousal application a couple of weeks ago and waiting for more info from the government.
BUT, a friend of mine, who submitted his application in March, just told me IRCC requested to see his Canadian police check. They need it quite quickly otherwise they cancel the application.
I never heard that they were requesting a Canadian police check, inland or outland.
IRCC occasionally requests an RCMP check but it isn't common. IRCC will not cancel his application if the RCMP check is going to take longer than the deadline; he can just show proof that he has applied for it and they will grant an extension.
Thank you for your reply. I am still a bit confused because it says this on the IRCC form he received:
• At this time, you need to provide a police certificate for:
1) The country where you currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more; and
2) The country where you have spent most of your adult life since the age of 18.
But he is in Canada at the moment, (hence the reason why he submitted it inland), and has been living in Canada for more than 6 months.
So does he really need to Canadian check?
Isn't it a weird requirement knowing that the person is submitting his application inland?
Most people don't need a Canadian check even if they've lived in Canada for a long time, and the 'how to get a police cert' section of the CIC website emphasises you probably won't need a Canadian one, don't bother getting one until/unless they ask for it.
CIC do their own checks with RCMP, the only people who need to supply one are the people CIC couldn't clear with the data they have (ie, people asked for one probably share at least a name, if not more, with a known Canadian criminal).
I thought that they would run their own police checks. But the sentences "At this time, you need to provide a police certificate for: 1) The country where you currently live, if you have lived there for six months", is confusing.
"Do I need to provide a Police Certificate with my Application for Permanent Residence? No"
"The Canadian visa office will tell you if you need a Canadian criminal record check while your application is being processed. If the visa office asks you to complete a criminal record check, visit the RCMP website for instructions. "
I see what you mean Spousalsponsee. Thank you for the link. I think my friend did it and well I'l see what they request regarding my application.
Because if they ask me to provide one from the country I currently live in, well that'll be Canada. They should know that because it's an application that has been sent to Canada...Anyway, thanks for your time
