Indian Citizen/Canadian PR/Student work visa OPT - seeking advice

Hi

I came to the US in Aug 2007 to pursue a Masters degree. My family and I became Canadian PR and visited Canada for a few days in April 2009. I graduated with a Masters degree (here in US) in May 2009 and have been on work visa (OPT) till now. I am looking to move to Canada and apply for Citizenship.
I have been told that my stay in the US as a student gets counted towards the days of 'physical presence' in Canada. Is that true? How about on a work visa in the US?

It doesn't get counted, last time I looked Canada and the US were separate countries. By the way citizenship requires physical presence in Canada.
