Yes, Apprenticeship is actually a credential, which weighs a lot in countries like Germany. They are actually preffered over people who just did a Diploma straight through. They are called "FACHARBEITER" = "SKILLED WORKER" An apprenticed person already knows the trade by the time he finishes. He is able to work immediately in his profession. It's an equivalent of BTec in most other countries.

What you normally do is, depending on the type of Occupation, you do 3 to 4 days on the job training and 1-2 days theory, which prepares you for the Exams.Alternatively, you have a 2-3year full time with morning sessions of theory and Afternoon sessions being purely Practical.
