I am from India, I am applying for an university in Canada and I am 99% sure of getting an admission as I have been informed by the graduate coordinator. However I am a co-applicant of a PR application submitted in December.
My concern is the college has informed that they wont be refunding the fee if I am paying the fee as international student. They have informed that I can wait upto July for my PR to get through.
However my consultancy says that we have to pay the first year college fee for Indian Students to get a Student Visa. Is this true?
Your PR application and study permit application are two different processes and your current residence status is Indian so if you are applying for a study permit now you have to pay international student fees but when your PR application is approved and complete the necessary formalities and then apply for a study permit then you will be eligible to pay domestic student fees.
Ya I agree, but is not enough if I show the proof of funds for applying for a student visa??? The college requires me to pay the fee only by July. I have an education loan to support my proof of funds.
No you need a confirmed letter of admission/acceptance (LOA) before you can apply for a study permit and no university/college will issue one without payment of fees. If you are applying under SDS then full years fees has to be paid or if under general category then at least one semester fees has to be paid. As the saying goes you cannot have your cake and eat it too.
