I want to apply for a temporary work visa but I wonder about inadmissibility due to criminal offences.
The thing is, there was a compulsory military service in my country and I was AWOL (away without leave, or possibly desertion, not sure how they'd classify it). I was convicted and got one year of probation. This is my crime. It happened more than 10 years ago. According to the laws of my country, I am automatically rehabilitated.
Now I am wondering if this makes me inadmissible to Canada and what to write in my application. I still need to get my Police clearance certificate to see if it's recorded (it might not be because it was with the military).
Since Canada doesn't have compulsory military service, I wonder how they will look at this. I searched the Criminal Code of Canada and there is nothing; military offences are covered separately. However, I was not a professional soldier - this was a compulsory service so not sure what applies to me.
I wonder if they automatically refuse everyone who say "yes" on the form about being convicted of a crime or do they check what actually happened. Do I have a chance here?
