Implied Status after PR application

Hi Everyone,
I recently applied for PR under the QC Skilled Worker program, and am currently on a NAFTA work permit that expires prior to when I will hear back about my PR.

Would implied status apply to me, or would I need to extend my work permit. I have read that under implied status I am able to leave Canada but would not be able to work on my return. Is this true? What would be the best option to ensure I remain legal in Canada until I get my PR.
