immigration medicals

my husband did hes medicals in march of 2011 now i know they are only good for one year and the date is comming up the files has been in the visa office since july 2011 now we havent heard an answer yet and they said it would take between 6 to 12 months they have not sent us a notice to redo them, now the question is what do we do next should he redo the medicals now even though they have not sent anything and even before they do. :-\
