Hello Everyone
My spouse is with in Canada on visitor status and I applied for permanent immigration after our marriage. Today I received a letter for interview in local Immigration office. So my question is on the interview does they keep your passport to stamp visa on passport, if yes than after how many days they return your passport. Because I have plans to travel outside the country, near the interview date they provided me.
I will appreciate the reply from all the senior members.
Thanks
Hello.
Could you give me more information? Did you apply for PR <Inland>? (This means that you sent your application to Vegreville?) Are you a sponsor and have you already been approved as a sponsor? Has your spouse received 'Decision Made'? If both yes, it's a landing interview. The local office just check his/her passport and return it to him/her soon.
Thanks for your quick response.
Yes, I applied in Inland PR at Vegreville, Alberta. As per my understanding my sponsorship is approved. Because they requested police clearence couple months back and we sent that. After that we received this letter. Following are the two key points.
1. In previous correspondence , you were informed that your application for permanent residence had been reviewed and an exemption to the requirement to obtain a visa outside of Canada had been granted.
2. Also they mentioned in the interview letter that "final determination regarding your ability to comply with all statutory requirements will not be made until such time as you appear for your landing interview".
Also they said to bring the landing fee in documents required section.
But interview is on 21st November, but I need to go to US on 25th November. So my concern is they are going to keep the passport on 21st and send back through mail or they are going to issue landing paper and return back the passport on 21st.
Thanks and appreciate the effort from senior members.

Are you an applicant?
I'm sorry I don't know about (1). However, they requested to bring you the landing fee. So, I guess this is the landing interview. On the landing interview, you will sign and receive 'Confirmation of Permanent Residence' and you will be approved as a PR. They don't keep your passport. They just check it and return it to you.
Will you go to US by your car or by plane? If you go there by your car, no problem. You just need to bring your COPR with you. However, if you use a plane, train or bus, please read here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=064&t=10
I hope other senior members give you more helpful advice.
Thanks again for your response.
My spouse is applicant, I am already permanent resident. I will be traveling to United States by car.
So at this point my understanding is they are not going to keep the passport. But I will get IMM 1000 landing record.
Senior members, please throw some light on it.

Unless they have a "Decision Made" on your wifes application, nobody will be keeping any passports. Your passport is never included in this other than a photocopy when the original application is sent. So your passport would not even be touched for this interview. I am unclear, based on the information you provided if this is a landing interview on the 21st of November, or if this a standard interview to check for a true relationship for you and your wife. I am also under the assumption that this is a spousal sponsorship application and not a refugee or some other PR application. If it is anything other than spousal, then likely you will not find your answers in the family class section of this forum.
