Hi everyone!

I hired an immigration consultant in August, to help with my visa extension and my common-law's LMIA. Since then, he didn't do anything, and when I asked why we are not preparing for my visa extension, he said that he misunderstood that I don't want it after all.
We paid him 1000 $ deposit on our first meeting. Since then, we didn't see him in person, only had a few Skype talks and exchanged about 70 emails (50 of them being from us to him and his answers being super short).

Since he didn't help us at all, we emailed him saying that we are canceling him and want our deposit back.
He said he will give us half the money as he spent his "time and experience" with us.

Can he do that?

What are the terms of the contract you signed with him, specifically the terms that guide cancellation of the contract or termination of his services?

Thank you for replying!

Under the section "cancellation" it says that clients can terminate the contract at any time and ask for the money back. It doesn't state how much money. We hired him as he came as a recommendation. Not a good one though I guess.
