Hi Folks,

I am a new member here. I got my "Ready for Visa" email yesterday (Skilled Worker PR program) , and have posted my passports.

I wanted to plan for next few steps:

  1. My medicals were done in last November, so is it correct to assume the expiry on my COPR will be 1 year from then (i.e. Nov, 2019) ?

  2. If so, I wanted to plan my visit for "landing". I am not fully ready to pack my bags and leave for good. I plan to go to Canada for a couple of days to get the bare minimum done. Hence a few questions:

    1. Can I chose any city for landing ?

    2. I had my India trip (I stay in the US) planned already before getting the "ready for visa" email. I intend to go from US --> Canada (landing and stay there for 24 to 36 hours) --> India --> USA.

So can I be there for a 24 to 36 hours and would that be enough to get the process started for getting the PR cards (I have relatives in Canada, so I will use their address, and they would mail me the cards later on in US)

    3. How do I show "proof of funds". Would bank account statements from US banks suffice for landing purposes ?

    4. Anything else that I will need to bring with me for the 1st time ?

Thanks in advance! I am looking forward to get to know others here and exchange valuable information.

Cheers!

First off - congrats!

For your queries:
1. Yes, it's normally either one year from your medicals or in very rare cases date of expiry of your passport.
2. 1. Unless you are nominated for a province, yes. However, I have heard advise to avoid Quebec if possible.
2. Depending on where and when you land, you could finish the PR card application at the airport. Otherwise, as long as you make sure you have at least one working day (or a couple to be sure), you should be alright.
3. I don't have direct experience (I'm landing in October), I have heard that a bank statement should be sufficient. For my part, I plan just to show my bank statement from Singapore. My gut feeling is that as long as the amount is not below or just at the requirement, they will not give you a hard time.
4. Interested to hear others answers on this one :)

Thanks :)

And thanks for for the prompt response.

Yeah, I did not get a nomination thought the preference section in the application (I vaguely remember something like that) I had indicated Ontario. However, Vancouver (British Columbia) is what I am eyeing.

If I may ask, what was the turnaround time for them to send back the COPR/stamped passports ?

Cheers!

PS : Best of luck for your move!
