I agree IELTS IS A HEADACHE. It is not only a language test but 40% general knowlede test too. I have seen that sme questions are based on G-Knowledge as well. for example write some about " Handcrafts" in your country......etc.
Mid career ppl are more concentrated in their Jobs and job related subjects. these sort ofQuestions makes life tuff...............

I don't think the purpose it to see how much you know about hand crafts in your country but to judge how good your English is when you write about them. I am sure you could write that the main hand crafts in your country are basket weaving and building igloos and they would not mark you down as long as your English is correct.
