Currently, if I give myself a 8, my marks come up to a 63 which is 4 points below the qualifying mark of 67. How much would I have to score on the IELTS in order for me to qualify to apply for immigration?
And, also how does the band score of 5/6/7/8 relate to the scores calculated on the immigration form. Please help .
Thanks
Based on what you have said, you will need 4 more points in IELTS, hence a total of 12 points from your IELTS exam to reach 67 points.
IELTS
Listening Reading Writing Speaking
7.5 - 9.0 6.5 - 9.0 6.5 - 9.0 6.5 - 9.0 -4 points each
5.5 - 7.0 5.0 – 6.0 5.5 - 6.0 5.5 - 6.0 -2 points each
4.5 – 5.0 3.5 – 4.5 4.0 – 5.0 4.0 – 5.0 -1 point each
Less than 4.5 Less than 3.5 Less than 4.0 Less than 4.0 -0 point each
Thanks mbastudies and drdev, but still a small confusion on how is the exam scored??
How many question in total? Out of how much? and if I need 12 points, how many can I afford to get wrong?
Am I making sense?? :S
???
SBO:
the speaking and writing test we cannot determined how much should be the score.
However in listening and reading, each is 40 questions each...In order to have a high proficiency/score, you ahve to score 33 points out of 40 and you will get 8 points in total...

Thanks Bahrain_Pearl:
So, you mean that in order for me to score a total of let's say 12, I can afford to get a 33/40 on listening and reading (which would give me 8 points) and the balance 4 points on speaking and writing?? Do I understand this correct?
Also, is the total test out of a score of 20??
SBO:
listening - 4 (if you get a score of 33 out of 40)
reading - 4 (if you get a score of 33 out of 40)
speaking - 2 (if ur band is 5.5)
writing - 2 (if your band is 5.5)
so make sure you can achieve the listening and reading points to get the maximum points.
speaking and writing is beyond my control but you can practice speaking (just be comfortable when you are being interviewed as if you are just talking to a friend minding of course the correct pronunciation, diction and grammar when answering) and writing...
