hi. I’m currently in Canada on a work permit. My colleague is also doing the same and he’s from New Zealand. His work permit expires Saturday coming. He’s entitled to 2 years but only bought 1 year insurance so his work permit was only a year long.
I know you can’t extend an iec but he has put in an application to extend his status of working. He’s saying his job offer has been extended but that’s not true. It’s because he had the wrong insurance. He’s been given implied status which I didn’t think was possible on an IEC. Is he likely to get approved?

The application to extend his work permit is going to be refused since he doesn't qualify for an extension. The most likely outcome is that the application will be returned as incomplete (rather than refused). If it's returned as incomplete, that will mean that he fell out of status in Canada effective the day his IEC expired. If it's refused, he'll be in Canada without status effective the refusal date. Either way, the extension isn't going to be successful and is a bad plan.

He doesn’t qualify for an extension? I thought because he’s doing an application to change his status, it would be okay? Because he’s doing under the fact that his job offer has been extended.
I tried telling him that it doesn’t look good. The woman told him it should be approved.
I thought he could get an extension if it was with the same employer, same job role etc.
Sorry for the questions.

To extend based on the "job offer has been extended" reason - he needs to be holding a YP or Co-op visa rather than a Working Holiday Visa. What kind of IEC does he hold?
Anyway - IMO - not your monkey, not your circus. If he really cared, he would be doing this research himself.

Yep, he’s on an IEC work permit. I think he thought he may have been able to hide the fact that he’s applying for extension based on job offer rather than insurance run out. Like they wouldn’t notice.
Yeah I know it’s not my problem. I wanted to do my own research to back up my points because he thinks my information is incorrect. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t giving false information.
