My boyfriend is looking to move here as soon as possible. We have no idea how to go about getting him here. He'd like to both work, and study, and become a permanent resident of Ottawa. He's 19, no criminal record, he has distant family in ottawa, and works as a server/hostess. We don't know what visa to apply with for him to come, please help!
The UK, looking to move to Ontario.

He should look into the IEC (working holiday) visa for UK citizens, when they start accepting apps again: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?lang=eng
Else if he gets accepted to some university/college in Ontario (and can afford to pay international student fees) he can then apply for a student permit. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/student.asp
If you ever become married or common-law (live together for 12 months), only then could you think of sponsoring him.

I'm not sure if he's a UK citizen or is just living in the UK. OP has yet to clarify...
My Bf came here from the U.K on the IEC (he did 2 one year IEC visas) visa then applied for PNP in Manitoba. So also look into what he needs to qualify for PNP. We could have done the sponsorship thing because we have lived together for just over a year now however there are a lot of conditions put on the sponsorship rout that we didn't want to have to worry about. So since he could qualify for PNP without any kind of sponsorship he went that way.
Anyway look into the EIC and him coming here to work for a year or two with that. This also gives you guys a chance to test the relationship out in more normal circumstances rather than the LDR thing. There is a big adjustment going from the "i miss you so much and love every second we are together" feeling of a LDR and the "Ive had a hard day and am grumpy" feeling of day to day life.
The thing about the IEC and student visa is that the kind of schooling he could do is limited on the EIC (I think he can't take anything that is more than a 6 month program) and iff he comes here on a student visa then the work he can do is limited. I know international fees are expensive however I believe the cost of tuition in the U.K has gone up the past few years so if he was planning to go to school there it may not be much more here. He will have to be able to prove he has the funds for school as well as funds to support himself if he comes on a student visa. So he would have to have around $20.000 in his bank account. If he comes on the IEC visa he has to have about $2500 to support himself plus enough money for a flight home or a return ticket. You can't get a return ticket for a year away so having the extra funds of about $1000 will be necessary for a total of about $3500 in his account for the EIC.
